Matt Harney has served associations for 11 years. Matt is the Executive Director of the American Association of Settlement Consultants (AASC) and CEO of the AASC Political Action Committee. Harney leads membership, educational, and advocacy efforts on behalf of the AASC. He also oversees the association and PAC budget while developing the communications strategy for the young association.
His first association position was with the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association, where he served as the Associate Executive Director/Director of Advocacy and Legislation. In this role, he led all legislative advocacy efforts, convened district societies, served as liaison with the osteopathic medical students, and staffed half of the Association’s bureaus. Matt was also selected as an honorary member of Omega Beta Iota, the National Osteopathic Political Action Honor Society.
After that, Matt accepted the role of Executive Director of the Ohio Osteopathic Association and President of the Ohio Osteopathic Foundation in 2018 after a nationwide search. In this role, Matt created ongoing continuing education programming, led legislative advocacy initiatives, and shepherded the Association to its best-ever financial standing. He also served the Executive Director of the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. Harney also served on the executive committee of Ohio’s health information exchange, CliniSync, for 5 years.
Matt received his Bachelor’s in Economics and Master’s in Business Administration from Oklahoma City University. He earned his certification for association executive (CAE) in 2022. Before working on behalf of associations, Matt worked in politics—initially as an executive director of a political action committee and then as a political consultant.
Matt and his fiancé live in Columbus, Ohio. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Grant Park Condo Association.
