Notably, she helped develop key resources to support SLPs and the patients they serve during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jamila is a collaborative leader, with a passion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and access (DEIA). She is committed to serving members of associations while advancing the mission, vision, and purpose of the organization. She maintained multiple leadership positions, including the Board of Directors, Convention Co-Chair, and Editor of the Resound))) publication. Jamila’s commitment to DEIA extends to her volunteer work and personal advocacy. The Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD) previously appointed her to serve on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee. Additionally, due to her experience living with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Jamila dedicates time to advocacy, increasing awareness of RA, and empowering individuals living with the condition through a personal blog, RheumMates Chronicles, and served as a community group facilitator and led fundraising campaigns for the Arthritis Foundation. Jamila holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Education (magna cum laude) in Communication Sciences and Disorders from North Carolina Central University (NCCU). She received the Forty under Forty alumni award from NCCU for leadership in healthcare.
