April Tone

April Tone, MBA, CAE
Senior Manager, Technical & Engineering Communities (TEC) Operations
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

April has enjoyed working with associations and nonprofits for over 14 years. Presently, April works as a Senior Manager of Technical & Engineering Communities (TEC) Operations at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). In this role, she partners with volunteer leaders of Technical Divisions, Technology Groups, and other committees to produce content for various mechanical engineering communities. Specific areas include creating and executing educational programming and networking, long-term planning, collaborating between departments internally and fostering relationships with external stakeholders to achieve a common goal. Members of these component groups total over 10,000 globally. Outside of her daily tasks, she serves as a board member to the Houston Society of Association Executives (HSAE), is on the steering committee for ASAE’s Black Association Executives (BAE) and contributes to the Diversity Equity & Inclusion team – encouraging members to prioritize increasing participation of engineers from different backgrounds. April has been recognized by her colleagues and executive teams for her positive attitude, work ethic, and dedication to the organization.

Her nearly 6 years at the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), prepared April for her current endeavors. There, she worked in three different areas. She started as a Corporate Programs Sales & Account Management Specialist, then worked as a Business Development Representative for the credentials program and finalized her journey with IFMA as Manager of Component Relations. While there, April’s knowledge of associations increased exponentially. It was built on the foundation of her experience from working at a small-staffed local 5013c organization as a marketing and public relations liaison for four years.

In her community, April has served as co-chair of the United Way Interagency Council of Greater Houston, as a secretary the National Hispanic Council on Aging, and she volunteers as a mentor to young girls.

April holds a Bachelor of Science in Radio, Television and Film from The University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Business Administration from Houston Baptist University. She has earned her credential as a Certified Association Executive (CAE).
