The ASAE community mourns the loss of an esteemed colleague who recently passed, Chris (J.C.) Mahaffey, FASAE, CAE. Chris was a stalwart association leader whose career spanned more than 45 years in the industry. He retired as executive director of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons in 2020 after 17 years. Before joining ACFAS, Chris served for 22 years as president and CEO of Association Forum. Chris was an active member of ASAE, and was named an ASAE Fellow in 1986 and a recipient of ASAE’s Key Award for association CEOs in 1994. He also received the Samuel B. Shapiro Award, Association Forum’s top honor for CEO leadership and accomplishments, in 2002. ASAE extends its deepest condolences to Chris’s family, friends and colleagues in this difficult time.
