ASAE’s Content Publishing, Including Associations Now, to Be Digital-First
WASHINGTON— In response to publishing and content consumption trends, ASAE announced today it will discontinue publishing its print magazine, Associations Now, after the August 2021 issue and focus on digital media channels that can best serve the needs of the ASAE community.
Over the past several years of ASAE Member Satisfaction Surveys, members have indicated a strong and growing preference for receiving content through digital channels. At the same time, advertiser interest in media channels has decidedly shifted from print to digital. Fiscal year 2021 marked the first time ASAE advertising revenue in digital eclipsed print revenue.
“We are very proud of Associations Now and its growth over the years, but we are confident we can deliver a more impactful and timely experience through digital channels with supplemental and more timely content,” said ASAE President and CEO Susan Robertson, CAE. “This won’t be a sudden change for us as publishing trends in recent years have already moved us in the digital-first direction. Over the next couple of years, Associations Now will drive toward the best possible combination of digital assets to create unique, and in some cases premium focused marketing formats. We are not completely abandoning print but will have a decidedly digital-first focus moving forward.”
Associations Now Daily News, an electronic daily newsletter for ASAE readers, will continue to be published five times per week and maintain the other digital media channels that members and advertisers find effective and informative. In the fall, ASAE will begin to roll out new digital media options that will create unique, focused, and valuable premium opportunities for advertisers to engage with ASAE’s members and customers. ASAE will also continue with its new broadcast endeavor, Associations Now Live; introduce additional sponsored content options; expand its 2020 launch of Demo Days; create advertorial opportunities in AN Brand Connection; and roll out other future media options. ASAE will also publish the highly focused and popular print Board Brief product and continue to publish Daily Now as a fixture of ASAE’s Annual Meeting & Exposition.
“This decision affords ASAE numerous opportunities to explore – particularly in the area of digital asset development – as we seek to best serve the needs of our association professionals and industry partners that support ASAE,” said Karl Ely, CAE, ASAE senior vice president and publisher.
