Individual Membership FAQs

Individual Membership FAQs

Who can be an individual member of ASAE?
ASAE members include professionals from trade associations, professional societies, philanthropic organizations, other nonprofits, suppliers of products and services to associations, educators, government employees, and others who interact with the association industry.

Is my membership renewal due on the anniversary of my join date, or is the membership term based on the calendar year? Do I pay the full amount of dues for the first year, or a prorated amount?
ASAE membership terms are on an anniversary cycle, so you will renew on the anniversary of your join date. Your membership period is for one year. If your membership lapses beyond our 90-day grace period, your membership term will begin on the day you renew. Individual members have individual renewal dates. Therefore, the amount for your first year of membership is the full dues amount.

May I pay two years of membership dues at the same time?
Yes, simply note on your invoice that you are paying dues in advance.

What forms of payment do you accept for our membership?
Membership payment can be made via check, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover), and wire transfer. Please make checks payable to ASAE.

When I join ASAE, am I automatically enrolled in my state or regional society of association executives (or vice versa)?
No, memberships in your state and/or regional societies are separate. ASAE encourages you to join your state or regional society as well to gain full access to professional development and networking opportunities in your geographic area.

I recently joined ASAE. When will I begin to receive information and materials such as Associations Now Daily News and other email communications?
Members who pay by credit card will have access to members-only resources with 24 hours. For members who pay by check, it may take up to two weeks to gain access to benefits. New members will begin receiving Associations Now Daily News immediately.

I've left my current position and will begin work at another association. Can I keep my membership?
Yes. Your ASAE membership follows you through your renewal date as long as you work for an association or nonprofit. When you begin your new position, please contact our Member Service Center at 888-950-2723 to update your record.

Another ASAE member on staff has left the organization. Can we transfer the membership to our new staff person?
Yes, on a prorated basis. You many transfer the membership to your new staff person or any other qualified staff person. Contact our Member Service Center at 888-950-2723 to request a transfer.

I am a member and am currently between association jobs, actively looking for my next position in association management. Do you offer assistance for members in this situation?
We are your professional society and are here for you in situations like this. We will extend your membership for six-month periods (up to two years in a lifetime) and waive your dues while you are looking for a new association job. Please contact our Member Service Center at 888-950-2723 to enroll in our waiver-of-dues program.

I am a recently retired association executive, and I wish to maintain my relationship with ASAE. Does ASAE offer a retired membership option?
Yes. ASAE’s Retired Friends of ASAE membership is available to members in good standing who are transitioning to retirement and have been involved with ASAE for at least five years.

Are my ASAE membership dues tax-deductible?
ASAE dues are not deductible as a charitable contribution for U.S. federal income tax purposes, but they may be deductible as a business expense. ASAE estimates that 23 percent of your dues are not deductible because of ASAE’s lobbying activities on behalf of its members.
